Many groups are offered to help you at this difficult time. Contact the Supportive Care Program for more information about the following groups:
• Bereavement Group: A support group for family members and friends who have lost a loved one to cancer.
• Cancer Transitions: A 6-week program designed to help patients who have completed treatment make the transition into survivorship.
• Cognitive Rehabilitation Program: Are you having trouble with memory and attention since being diagnosed/treated with cancer? This 10-week program may help you learn new skills to improve your thinking and overall quality of life. This group requires that you bring a close friend or family member to the meetings.
• Support Group for Children/Teens Who Experience Cancer within their Family: A six-session group experience for children 5 to 11 years of age, who have a family member with cancer. It provides them with accurate information about cancer and a chance to share their experiences with other children.
• Get Together For Teens With Cancer: A support group for teenagers, led by a social worker and a nurse with experience in working with teens who have cancer. This group helps youth offer and receive support from one another, and learn more about cancer and how it can be treated.
• We’re in it together: An information session for couples that explore the unique views and coping mechanisms for men whio are interested in being present and helpful to their life partners.
• Laryngectomy Information and Support Group: This group, which was initiated by patients and their caregivers, provides support and information to new and surviving laryngectomy patients. Speech Language Pathologists attend the group to provide support and guidance.
• Return to Work Group: A 4-week program to help patients returning to work following the completion of cancer treatment.
• Stress Management Program for Cancer Patients: This 4 session program helps patients cope with the impact of cancer, and learn skills to live better in spite of the worries brought on by the disease. Patients learn about the causes of stress, ways to cope with it, and relaxation techniques. Patients have an initial meeting with a counselor, before starting the program.
Additional groups may be offered on different topics based on demand. Many of our groups are available closer to home using the telemedicine network upon request. Give us a call!
