Supportive Care Program
Why Stand Alone?

If you or someone you know has cancer, you may have many questions and concerns. The Supportive Care Program can help you and your family through this difficult time.
We are a group of professionals trained to help you and your family deal with the psychological, emotional, social, spiritual, physical and day-to-day issues brought on by the illness.

Within the team are people with various skills such as:

Dietitians: help you plan what foods you will need to maintain your strength and provide your body with good nutrition despite any side effects of treatments you may experience.

Social Workers: help you and your family cope with the diagnosis, prepare for treatment, get through treatment, as well as assist in accessing community resources.

Clinical Neuropsychologist: assesses brain function and treats cognitive and psychological deficits related to cancer and its treatment.

Physiotherapists: help you deal with the physical effects of cancer and maintain mobility during and after treatment.

Speech Language Pathologists: help you with difficulties with speaking and/or difficulties with swallowing, as a result of cancer of the head and neck.

Pediatric Interlink Nurse: help children with cancer and their families to prepare for and cope with treatment, by arranging services in their home and community.

Supportive Care Oncology Network: helps communities in northeastern Ontario provide support and services to patients and families dealing with cancer.

Supportive Care Oncology Research Unit: conducts high quality, ethical research on various topics that affect the quality of life of cancer patients and their families.
