The Fourth Annual Health Sciences North Mental Health and Addictions Conference will take place on October 6th, 2016
The conference provides an opportunity to bring together health care and social service professionals, treatment providers from primary care, hospitals and community care, medical learners and other students, as well as consumers and their families to a venue where best practices in the care and treatment of addictions and mental illness will be shared. Through an inter-professional lens, we will share local trends, and evidence-based strategies and solutions to the most common and most pressing mental health & addictions challenges.
Our keynote speakers will provide current updates on topics that deserve special attention in our community:
- Clint Malarchuk, a former NHL goaltender who will share his heart-wrenching life-story which includes living with mental illness, alcoholism, PTSD, and surviving a jarring attempt to take his own life.
- Cristina Scarpellini, Founder of Angels of Hope, will share her story of overcoming her addiction as well as her mental health challenges. She will highlight some challenges she encountered and how she persevered with the help of Dr. Franklyn’s clinic.
This conference is open to:
• Front-line service providers, researchers, doctors, psychiatrists, specialists, and students, working in primary care settings, health and social service agencies, community-based and hospital environments, and emergency departments;
• Consumers of services (clients and families).
