Gastrointestinal (GI) Outbreak - Update
The gastrointestinal (GI) outbreak on the 5th floor of the South Tower, Ramsey Lake Health Centre is ongoing. The causative organism has been identified as Norovirus.
The following infection prevention and control measures are in place and will be maintained until further notice:
- Enhanced surveillance
- Laboratory testing
- Isolation precautions
- Strict hand hygiene
- Environmental cleaning and disinfection
- Staff education
- Visitor reminders
- Consultation/collaboration with the Sudbury & District Health Unit
All patient care areas: Please remain vigilant in the identification of suspect cases (sudden onset of vomiting and/or diarrhea). In addition to routine practices, Contact/Droplet isolation precautions must be initiated at the onset of symptoms.
A reminder to all to please clean your hands, with either soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub, before and after patient contact. Diligent hand hygiene is extremely effective in reducing the spread of infection.
