Important information on COVID-19 / Renseignements importants sur la COVID-19!

We are asking all patients and visitors coming to HSN to please wear a mask as an added step to reduce the spread of germs and protect vulnerable patients. Handmade masks are NOT acceptable. When you arrive at the hospital as a patient or care partner a hospital approved mask will be provided to you and you will be expected to wear it during your time at HSN to keep yourself, other patients and care partners and our staff, physicians, learners and volunteers safe.

Patients going for a procedure where they must remove the mask will be asked to keep it ready to be put back on once the procedure is completed.

Before coming to the hospital, please check our COVID-19 info page for updates.

Clean Your Footwear

Health Sciences North (HSN) encourages you to clean your boots as you enter our premises, and remove outer footwear when entering a patient’s room. In doing so, you can help reduce slipping hazards for patients, visitors, and staff. It also helps keep patient rooms clean and free from outside debris. HSN encourages you to use the foot cleaning mats and equipment found at the main entrances to the Ramsey Lake Health Centre, North East Cancer Centre, and Sudbury Outpatient Centre:

The Health Sciences North team of physicians, staff and volunteers welcomes you and your family. Our goal is to provide quality, patient-centered care and to ensure that your visit is as comfortable as possible.

We have prepared this section of the web site to answer some of the questions we hear most often from patients and visitors. As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding services or programs, you are encouraged to ask any member of your health care team.

Flu Season

During flu season, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, for the safety of our patients HSN asks that you please do not visit until your symptoms subside:
  • Fever, chills
  • Cough, sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhea
If you feel well and are visiting HSN, always remember to wash your hands upon entering the hospital, and before you enter and leave a patients room.  Other precautions, such as wearing a mask will also prevent the spread of germs and viruses.

To protect yourself from the flu, get the flu shot and always practice good hand hygiene. Learn more about the flu and how to protect yourself and loved ones.

Support a Scent-Free Environment

To protect the health and well-being of our patients, visitors and staff, Health Sciences North kindly requests that you do not wear or use any scented products while on hospital property.

Scented products linger long after an individual leaves an area. This can cause allergic reactions and respiratory distress for patients, visitors and staff.

Your co-operation in assisting the hospital to promote a fragrance-free environment is appreciated.

Thank you,

Health Sciences North Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee

Bicycle Lockers

They are located at the front of the hospital just outside the main entrance, as well as outside the South Tower entrance and Northeast Cancer Centre rooftop. Anyone wishing to utilize a locker may do so but must supply their own lock and must remove their lock at the end of the visit so that others may access the units. The lockers are built to have the bike backed into the unit.
