Becoming a Co-op student with Health Sciences North
Step 1A prospective student must first be pre-screened by their secondary school Co-op teacher before being recommended to HSN.
Step 2Pre-screened students will be interviewed by HSN Volunteer Services to assess the suitability of students for placement. Not all students that are interviewed will be chosen for an assignment.
Step 3Successful candidates will be assigned a role within HSN based on their personal goals, skills, and interests.
Step 4Students will attend a mandatory General Orientation session, conducted by Volunteer Services. The Orientation is held one week before their first day of Co-op and provides important information about working in a hospital environment, as well as the rules and regulations of Co-op placements.
Step 5Students will complete an obligatory orientation and training session specific to the unit they will working in.
Step 6Start your Co-op! Keep in mind all guidelines, policies, procedures and regulations of placement.
Step 7Evaluations are conducted between the student, Volunteer Advisor and teacher throughout the Co-op placement. Teachers will arrange appointments through Volunteer Services. Specific learning plans are developed for each student.

Students must comply with HSN’s security policies in order to participate in the hospitals Co-op program, including:
